National Teaching Fellowship Scheme date of registration, eligibility and purpose

50 awards of £10,000 will be given to staff to be used for personal development in learning and teaching.The submission deadline is Wednesday 12 noon, 4 March 2009. The Eligibility All those involved in supporting the student learning experience in the University are eligible to apply, eg academic, academic-related, technical and learning technology staff. The ways in which this is manifest may be many and varied, including, inter alia, direct engagement with students through programme delivery, involvement in the design of programmes, teaching methods or forms of assessment, commitment to the support of learners, or leadership of/participation in innovative projects. There are no minimum experience requirements. Both full-time and part-time staff are eligible for nomination provided that they also meet the other criteria for eligibility outlined below. Instructions to Nominees The process is initiated by self-nomination. Nominations should comprise the following, each as separate Word or PDF document submitted electronically (and in hard copy): * a claim for Fellowship: a statement of how the individual demonstrates excellence relevant to each of the Individual NTFS Awards criteria (maximum 5000 words) * a statement indicating how the individual has made a significant contribution to the implementation of the University’s Teaching and Learning Strategy (maximum 1000 words) * a brief curriculum vitae (maximum 3 A4 pages) * a signed statement of support from the individual’s senior manager (maximum 2 A4 pages). The Purpose 1. raise the profile of learning and teaching 2. recognise and celebrate individuals who make an outstanding impact on the student learning experience. 3. provide a national focus for institutional teaching and learning excellence schemes.
